At COSTA NOVA Industria Group, we are committed to making our stoneware more sustainable. With the goal of contributing to a greener future, we created Ecogres® (ecogres), a registered trademark of COSTA NOVA, which results from the development of a new ceramic raw material. All products carrying this seal of guarantee are made from non-hazardous recycled materials, sourced from ceramic surpluses, by-products, and other additives – a highly eco-friendly new ceramic material.
In 2023, the COSTA NOVA Industria Group built and inaugurated a factory dedicated to the production of Ecogres – Ecogres – Cerâmica Ecológica.
This factory, considered one of the most sustainable tableware stoneware producers in the world, has the capacity to employ 300 people.
The production of theecogres clay begins with the collection, selection, and batching of ceramic surpluses and by-products produced in our factories, combined with other materials – partly from surpluses of nearby industries – to stabilize the final composition. The recycled clay used to produce ecogres represents approximately 25% of all ceramic clay purchased from local external suppliers. At the end of the process, ecogres clay consists of 99% recycled by-products. The result is a homogeneous ceramic clay with the characteristics of stoneware, featuring water absorption below 0.5% and superior mechanical strength, ready for use on the production line. This entire process takes place within the same factory facilities, also contributing to a reduced carbon footprint.
Extract and Recycle
COSTA NOVA sees its practices and products as integral parts of a broader sustainability commitment to its community and the environment. Based on this commitment, the company developed a new raw material – ecogres – by extracting, recycling, and reusing surpluses, by-products, and glazes from its own production process, as well as surpluses from other industries.
